Why are We so Scared of Robots / AIs?

This Blog-post is a response to the thinking activity task on 'Why are We so Scared of Robots / AIs?' by our professor Dr.Dilip Barad Sir. To know about the task, CLICK HERE.

The modern world become more powerful in creating life, biologically and technologically also. The life of humans always being in threat of 'security'. Might be possible for its value and need to be alive for more years! We are happy while taking selfies but we are not happy to see ourselves in the mirror. Why? Why do we rely on machines or machine-created things? Why are we happy to see ourselves becoming free while machines and robots take our place and do our work?

Artificial Intelligence:

Artificial Intelligence is a machine-based theory that can be applied to human purposes. Humans can use it for their purpose of living life also. There are four types of Ais:

  • Reactive Machines: Technology capable of responding to external stimuli in real-time, but unable to build a memory base and store information for future use.
  • Limited Memory: Machines that can store knowledge and use it to learn and train for future tasks.
  • Theory of Mind: The concept of AI that can sense and respond to human emotions as well as perform the tasks of limited memory machines.
  • Self-aware: The final stage of AI is where machines can not only recognize the emotions of others but also have a sense of self and human-level intelligence.
Why we scared of Ais/Robots:
We are living in the arena of life and death. Probably technology plays a very vital role in that. Can we survive a day without technology and its uses? Absolute not. Robots make our life easy by doing our work as per our intentions. While technology become more advanced than it has emotions like humans. Here are some examples:

1. Babysitter Robot

2. The iMom - Mom robot
Both short films are based on the relationship between robots and humans. When robots get emotion and touch towards the person they eventually want something from us also because the inputs of human emotions also are there installed by the humans. In both films, the mother's role becomes poor as per they call the mother. Somewhere busy with their work and they just go outside to make home alone, along with child and robot. If we know about the benefits of technology there should be some disadvantages also. While if it has come to the children then it becomes more sereouse matter.

3. 'Anukul' (1976)
We are not live with humans but we are living with robots. Eighter they are as looking as like us or they are in our mobile phones as virtual assistance. In this short film, the old man wants to carry a young man for his help. When a robot, named Anukul comes to know about the man that he talked against him, he attacked him.

We are actually not scared of Robots and AIs, but probably we scared that technology can not rule us. And that ego leads us toward the actual danger of technology. Yes, there are certain dangers to using technology, but it is a privilege of people that we should completely stop to use robots and AIs because of their dangerous acts. While they were created through humans for their own purpose while Robots/AIs wake up with emotions and everything of humans have, probably they ask for their rights! In the future, there might be a strike of 'Robots' Rights'! We do not create Robots or AIs for a public purpose and can be beneficial for the poor public, but these kinds of creations are used by only Rich personalities.
