My Daughter joined a Cult

This Blog-post is a response Sunday Reading task on My Daughter joined a cult given by our professor madam Miss. Yesha Bhatt.

Can we live without Emotion? Can we believe in Humanity rather than Religion? Are we the people who blindly believe anything in the name of GOD?

Before going to discuss this docu-series, let me introduce to you blind faith in false religious practice and the people who were using the emotions of devotion to God in India. The subject of this type of using people and their emotions is the worldwide tension itself. They easily believe the type of people in the name of God and they further do whatever they said.

India is a country where different religions and lots of Devis and Devatas. Thousands of people believe in different gods and goddesses. By the clicking following image, you can reach the list of 'Babas' who were found frauds, rapists, and many more crimes they did, and now they are blacklisted. |

My Daughter joined a Cult” by Discovery Plus:

The documentary is a very tough task to do. It should be completely realistic with proof and with so much evidence. This docu-series a recently released and is based on real incidents connected with fraud baba called Nityananda. It is all about the rise and fall of Swami Nityananda has set up the 'Republic of Kailaasa' on an island off Ecuador in South America. The series is dived into three parts, 1) He took my daughters 2)Crime After Crime? 3)A well-Planned Escape?  around 30 or 40 minutes. Directed by filmmaker-journalist Naman Saraiya.

The process of Brainwashing – (Indian followers – White followers):

Nityananda was a very sharp-minded man to know very well how to convey his followers in a certain way and easy way that they become convinced. He had a number of followers from India as well as from other countries also. like Janardhan Sharma and his wife who regretted sending theirs to their daughters at the ashram. Sarah Stephanie one of the ex-devotee of Nityananda shared how he try to use her sexually in the name of spirituality. Then in the case of  Aarthi Rao, she was also sexually harassed by him in the name of spirituality and its connection with it. So he first gains faith from the followers that has the only way to the connection of the god and has the power how to involve the self as in spirituality. Even his way to do brainwashing is also affected might be because of his way of speaking and confidence which make it easy to do his brainwashing.

Concept of ‘Bhakta’ – (Blind followers)

While talking about the Bhakta and followers of saints, it is obvious that connected with religion and its sentiments. If I believe in religion or one saint and someone comes up with his unfaith toward God, I might be angry with him or her. That is the blind faith that someone tells me again and again but I don't want to listen because my brainwashing is already done by that saint. And also it can be possible that I come across many of my relatives or my nearby people who connected with that saint and so I believe him.

Such blind men may lead many other blind followers without true knowledge of material conditions, but they are not accepted by devotees. Such blind teachers, being interested in the external, material world, are always bound by the strong ropes of material nature. (Vaniquotes.org)

What role of the English language in this?

As Nityananda lived in the era of the digitalized world, he knows very well how to use, rather than misuse the technology. He gave certain tasks to his white followers who were masters in technology and he command them to make videos about him, how and where the upcoming event is organized and they were supposed to cheer up him. Sarah Stephanie was the ex-technician of the institution. This quite helped him to gain Internation fame because Sarah was already a very good speaker and video content creator in the English language and also because English is Global Language.

Why do people believe him even after the CD incident?

After the victim, Aarthi Rao herself said to the people what Nityananda did with her, people still did not believe that he was a fraud. Probably the lack of awareness that what is right or what is wrong and the lacking knowledge about education also.

Connection with The Wretched of the Earth:

The Wretched of the Earth is a landmark work by the psychiatrist Frantz Fanon who analyzed the seminal discussion of decolonization in Africa, especially Algeria. He observed the colonial period and analyzed it psychologically and critically as well. He also studied the violence in the practice of Decolonization. This kind of Babas seems the settlers over the Indian people because while they came to the throne of their particular places or their Matha, they command their followers to do what they want from them. On the other hand, in popular culture, we can see that the nominated people among the common people are also very close to them. It seems Bourgeoisie as Fannon mentioned. This series also very much connected with what Fannon put the chapters in a linear way. As some colonizers raise their voices, in the series we can see that some followers also raised their voices but they do not actually get the result in a way.

What is ultimately Faith? How to overcome this BlindFaith? Well, this is I think unsolved changing puzzle because time and again we see this type of fraud increasing and people easily believe also that time is moving with changes which means the solution also changed.! Because it is not only a question of Faith but the safety of the children and parenting, the feminist concern can be noted. This all concerns are enveloped by Fannon in his dynamic work.
