Hello Friends!
I'm here to share my thoughts about the story "The Nightingale and the Rose" which is written by famous Irish poet or playwright, named Oscar Wilde. He is also known for some poetry as well as articles for a national Irish newspaper called, 'The Nation'.
The Nightingale and the Rose
This short story is start with the boy's (who is mantioned here a young student)conversation with himself, about the girl which he likes. She said him that if he has a red rose then she will dance with him. But unfortunately, in his garden there were no red rose!
During his conversation with himself, one little Nightingale heard him. Here, the story is actually being. Nightingale saw him and sung for him but actually the student was no have a idea that she sings for him! She described him, his eyes,hair,face....with is deep sorrow! Wilde described it very lightly drawn in the story.
Then student think more in deep that if he has a red rose then how he and his love would dance with each other. The little Nightingale said that Indeed, is the true love.....
She said well-marked think that....
"What I sing of,he suffers: what is joy to me to him is pain surely love is a wonderful thing it is more precious than emeralds and dear than fine opals. Pearls and pomegranate cannot buy it, nor is it set forth in the Marketplace. It may not be purchased it of the merchants, nor can it be weighed out in the balance of Gold."
Further, Wilde used the Natural elements like Green Lizard, Butterfly, and Daisy. These all are asked to Nightingale that why he was crying? When Lizard know the answed by Nightingale that he was crying for a red rose he throw it that a ridiculous think! But Nightingale actually know the reality of the student's situation and sat with silently in the oak tree.
Then, suddenly she flying in the sky and first visit to rose tree's. First has a white rose and second has a yellow. Then when she visits third rose tree, but the situation is that it has no white Rose! Nightingale had only one option that as if rose tree said that if she will give her blood that it's became a Red. In short if she gives her Life then the Red rose will ready.
The Nightingale give her Life for the student's happiness. She think that if she give her life to rose then the boy tack it for his love and then he became always happy in his future. She do it. Wilde mentioned it too painfully. When there was a night and there were several natural elements were also crying when Nightingale gives her life. But cause of the girl's Materialistic love, she rejected his rose when he get up earlier morning and go to the professor's house actually the girl was his daughter, after the sacrificing of nightingale.
The girl choosed the jewelleries given by other boy. And the boy thrown the rose into the Gutter. The student sudden changed his mind in phylosophical way and try to concentrate in his studies and feel that there is no meaning of love...
He felt that,
"In fact it is quite unpractical, and, as in this age to be practical is everything, I shall go to back to Philosophy and study Metaphysics."
Sacrifice of the Nightingale
Here, there is the actually end of the Life of Nightingale. She really sacrificed her soul for the students not the Life. But the point is that why she sacrificed her life for him...? The student is a human being and that's why he just listened her not feel her's Voice and songs. Because of he was already in love.
Birds love against the human being
Here is also a notable think that as a human being the girl can't see the student's feeling when the bird! The Nightingale see it! Likewise we, as a human being we can't see like the nature perceives. That's why there is no any kind of Materialism and selfishness by the nature but here by the human and writer also try to mantioned it throughout the character of the girl.
In the end......
- To love oneself is the beginning of a lifelong romance.
- Never love anybody who treats you like you're ordinary.
~ Oscar Wilde
